Don’t realize that there are different ways to determine size

The filter I replaced was listed as 18 x 18 x 4. The filter I bought was listed as 18 x 18 x 4. However, apparently the one I bought is “actual size” didn’t know there was more than one way to the name the size of the filter. This filter does not fit because the actual size of the filter that I need is 17.5 x 17.5 x 4.
